Before we went to Spain I did some research about day trips from Alicante and found a photo of the Fuentes del Algar waterfalls and instantly fell in love!
The spectacular waterfall and pools that you might have seen in a very old Timotei tv commercial, are just an hour drive north of Alicante. We had rented a car for our entire stay, so getting there was no problem.
After paying the admission fee, you can take a refreshing swim in the crystal-clear pools of water – but be warned it’s freezing even in summertime!
The waterfalls are great to visit at any time of year. Walk along the riverbed and swim in the rock pools, take a picnic and simply enjoy the breathtaking views. The walk along the natural pools is stunning as you will see five crystal-clear pools before arriving at a little oasis.
Rocks can be quite slippery so keep that in mind if you are bringing your kids.
There is plenty of parking available and a few restaurants (some with pools) are in walking distance to stop for lunch or a swim. We had lunch before heading back and the kids enjoyed having this massive pool all to themselves.
I highly recommend heading to the waterfall when you’re in Alicante. Bring a picknick and make a day out of it. The scenery is stunning!
