When my sister book her flights to come and see us, I knew we would have to go away for a night at least to properly catch up. While looking at places to go that are not too far from Cork and a place I haven’t been before I instantly thought of going to Kilkenny. So decision made, I only had to find a hotel. Doing some research online, I came across Lyrath Estate pretty soon and fell in love with the old style charm and the luscious green fields that were shown on the website.
And Lyrath Estate hotel didn’t disappoint! The ground are beautiful and very well looked after. The hotel itself manages to combine the old 17th century house with the modern wing and convention center but it blends in beautifully.
After check in, we took the kids to the pool which we had all to ourselves – bliss! There is also a steam room and sauna available but we chose to have a long hot bath in our room instead followed by a walk exploring the grounds. There is also a playground which the kids just loved!
There are 3 options for dining: Tuppers bar, La Perla Restaurant – their fine dining restaurant and, Yindees restaurant with a temporary Asian style menu.Something for every taste and budget.
We booked a deluxe room which was very spacious, modern and very comfortable and this was the view from our room – need I say more? The room had everything you would find in a five star hotel except the hair dryer was missing but after calling reception a new one was brought up in under 2 min. Great service all around.
The beds were very comfortable and it was hard to get up the next morning.
The Oasis Spa won Irish Tatler Hotel Spa of the Year 2015. The spa offers a wide range of treatments – Elemis facials, Kerstin Florian facials, massages and special packages for men. Since we had brought the kids, I didn’t have time to check out their spa but I would love to book a treatment or two next time we’re here.
Daytrip from Kilkenny:
On our way from Cork to Kilkenny, we stopped in Cashel to see the Rock of Cashel. Haven driven past Cashel many times, I was eager to see if the Rock would live up to our expectations.
We truly enjoyed our stay and for sure will be back!
As I am always looking for new places to visit in stay at, do you have any recommendations?
