5 min with… Catherine from The Dainty Dress Dairies

irish bloggerPlease tell us a little bit about yourself!

Hiya! my name is Catherine. I am 27 and I love all things vintage and shabby chic. I started blogging a year and a half ago and my blog is called the dainty dress diaries. I blog mainly about my home up cycle projects and then share my love of tea dresses. I am 4 foot 11 and 3/4 short so I like to share my petite fashion finds. I also work in retail where my love of dresses began and were my addiction to them is fueled. I have a little rescue cat called Blondie who steals the show over on Instagram.

What inspired you to start blogging?

I had been thinking of blogging for along time and it was a good friend called Karl who encouraged me to go for it. At first I didn’t really know what to blog about so I started sharing my dress posts. Then once I purchased my home I started with the interior blog posts and before I knew it I had gained some followers on my blog and instagram. What held me back from blogging for so long was fear, fear of looking silly and fear of just getting abuse. I just went for it and haven’t looked back. I blog about what I love and not what I think others will love. I think what motivated me the most was meeting like minded people.

What drives you to keep blogging?

The relationships and oppertunities. I have met so many new people and made new friendships that I wouldnt have found if I wasn’t blogging. When someone says that I inspired them to take on a home project and that I gave them confidence then that is what keeps me going. Chatting to new people and making new friendhips also keeps me going. Some days I might be exhausted from work but I can have a chat with someone and it gives me a boost and some motivation.

What will readers find on your blog?

Tea dresses, shabby chic, tea cups, homeware hauls, up cycle diy tutorials and hopefully some inspiration. I share my style in both fashion and my home. My blog kind of grows with me, people would of seen me go from just blogging about tea dresses to me blogging about transforming my home.

Describe your perfect day!

My perfect day starts off with a fry! a magic fry that doesn’t make you fat. Then it would be a sunny warm day and I would be by a beach in a cute beach bar with a sugary cocktail with an umberella in it, ( a magic one that caused no hangover). I would basically eat and relax all day with no phone or internet and not have a care in the world. I would have the people closest with me to enjoy it with.

Where do you shop?

For dresses my go to places are Dorothy Perkins, Closet, Miss selfridge, Asos. Then for the home its my faves Dunnes stores, Next and then the second hand sites and markets for my vintage tea cup finds and furniture. Also I love rua on caple st in Dublin for the quirky home nik naks and the owner is lovely too.

What do you wish you had more of in your life?

Time! can we add an extra few hours to the day? I wish I had more time to do the things I love. We all have our day jobs to pay the bills but I wish I had an extra day in the week to do my crafting, blogging, up cycle projects, sewing. I wish I had a little bit more energy too.

What’s your favourite ‘me time’ activity?

My fave thing to do for ‘me time’ is to make something or transform something at home. Some people like to relax in the bath or watch telly which I do like but I get a real kick out of transforming a piece of furniture or sewing something. I do sewing classes in my local school on a Monday evening and those 2 hours are my ‘me time’. Going to bed early is also my guilty pleasure, I have been known to be asleep by 10 on a school night.

You have a night off and unlimited funds: what do you do?

I throw the biggest tea party ever. A big Alice in wonderland tea party, with loads of champagne and food. It would be in an gorgeous location where its warm and loads of lights at night. A great band. Then at the end a big firework show!.

What are your top 3 favourite places in Ireland?

Galway. If I didn’t live in Dublin I would live in Galway, everyone is so friendly and a gorgeous place.

Powerscourt, the views are stunning and the waterfall, its just so beautiful to walk around the gardens. Breathtakingly beautiful.

Kerry, I stayed there last year and went to see the dolphin and the drive was beautiful .I also remember a gorgeous town along the way with beautiful cottages with thatch roofs. I cant remember the name.

What’s your favourite holiday destination and why should we go there?

My fave type of holiday is one were you relax on the beach, I love adventures and I have been to america a few times but my absolute fave is going to the canaries and staying on the marina in Puerto Rico. Sipping wine in the evening on the balcony watching the sun set. Just really peaceful and slow pace and just relaxing. Sitting in the sun, going for a swim and going on a little walk at lunchtime.
