A dream wedding at Waterford Castle

www.aspectphotography.netTwo weeks ago, the day of my sister’s wedding was also Mr. SKD and my 3rd wedding anniversary. Time really flies! So I thought it is about time to write a more personal post and share our wedding day with you…

As some of you might know, Mr. SKD proposed in Fiji (I’ll post the whole story later) but quickly we decided to get married in Ireland. It would have been to much to ask family and friends to travel all the way to Fiji to share our special day with us but we always knew we wanted to have a wedding with close friends and family. So going home to Ireland was the best decision.  But if you are planning to elope, I cannot recommend Fiji highly enough! I’ll show you some of our after wedding photo shoot images in another post and you’ll see what I mean!

I spent a few month researching wedding venues all over Ireland and once I cam across Waterford Castle I knew it would be the perfect venue! Waterford Castle is located on a small private island on the river Suir and can only be reached by ferry. The resort consists of the castle hotel, several lodges and an 18 hole golf course.

If you have your wedding at the castle, it is yours for the entire day and night – your very own castle! Quite a dream coming true for the princess in me 😉

Since we were living in Fiji at the time, I had to organise  everything over the internet (we only came to Ireland 10 days before the wedding) and was really stressed about it but everything worked  out perfectly!

I had my sister and best friend as my bridesmaid and M. SKD had his 2 brothers and best friend as groomsman. We actually got their suits made in Fiji and the bridesmaids dresses had to be ordered online as well – quite a big risk but we didn’t have a choice. And thank god, they fitted everyone just perfectly!
My flowers were just as beautiful as I had imagined them – all thanks to Catherine from Flower World Waterford. I cannot recommend her highly enough! She only had a photo I sent her to work with and she created some beautiful bouquets. Our photographer Shane O Neill was also brilliant, he made us all feel really relaxed on the day and we got some great photos to treasure the memories forever. Gillian O’Dea was our wedding planner at Waterford Castle and she did an amazing job organising everything that the day ran smoothly on the day.

The night before the wedding we stayed at the Fitzwilton Hotel in Waterford. The boys all went out for a few drinks and to watch a soccer match and I had a relaxed dinner with family and all the girls that I hadn’t seen for ages. The next morning we went over to Waterford Castle and got ready in on of their spacious lodges. We decided to have a first look and get our photos done before the ceremony to then have the chance to celebrate with all our friends and family and don’t have to be away for too long for photos. I would do the same again and recommend it to anyone thinking about doing the same. This way, you really get to enjoy your day and you can really relax right after the ceremony.
The food by chef Michael Quinn was absolutely divine. Great food was Mr. SKD only requirement when we booked the venue. It had to be exceptional – him being a chef as well.  We celebrated until four am the next morning and seeing a few sore heads and many guests commenting that it was the best wedding they’ve been to, I am sure we made a few right choices. For us it was a wonderful dream coming true. x
