Guest Blogger Anika – Finding the dress

I know it’s taken quite a while but the second post is finally here. While my sister was here with us in Ireland for a few weeks in February, we went wedding dress shopping.  I really wish I would have known about Diamond Bridal when we started looking for her dress!

So here’s her story! Enjoy – and please ask away if you have any questions 🙂

This week was all about The Dress.

We started off by hours of online research every night. I had a good idea of what I wanted. A slim cut lace dress in the style of Maggie Sottero’s Bernadette. I always knew I wanted something classy and sophisticated and really, when we went to the first store, I was just going to confirm that that was The Dress for me (and try on some others because I haven’t played dress up with my sister in decades).

With my decision made, we walked into the first store and sure enough I found what I was looking for. I was excited to finally be trying on My Dress and see what it looks like on me! For the fun of it, I also tried on an elegant satin dress that had a touch of Zelda Fitzgerald, and two ballgown-style dresses. OH WOW. It was unexpected, but seeing myself in that beautiful ballgown, I suddenly felt like a real bride. Princess style. This sensation of feeling absolutely stunning and gorgeous rushed through my body and knocked me off my borrowed bridal shoes. OH WOW! When do you ever wear a ball gown? I can confirm that I had never even tried one on and I just didn’t want to take this one off. Who would have thought…

Next day, second bridal store. At that point, I was still fighting the ball gown and wanted to stick to Bernadette. After all, we had spent so many months together in my head, I couldn’t just let her go! We were friends. The selection was a bit smaller and I didn’t feel like they had the style I was going for. Wrong again. The assistant pulled out a dress that gave me the same girly thrill as the ball gown the day before, but with this one I liked the skirt better. It was ivory satin and looked a tad more elegant. Man, if I tried on anymore dresses, I’d be in even more misery about choosing what I wanted.

Thrilled and dis-heartened at the same time, we went home. There was only one way out of this: 2 dresses. You will have to wait for our wedding pictures to see what I am going with but I am happy to announce that I have made my choice and can’t wait to feel OH WOW again! C’mon, make my dress and ship it to me!

Next up will be visiting the location next week, based on that designing and sending invitations, decide on the registry, recruit my third bridesmaid, choose flowers, food, decorations and bridesmaid dresses. 4 months to go.
