Well, we’re back! The kids had two weeks off over Easter so I decided to take them home to spend some time with my parents and long overdue catch up with some friends. We stayed in Berlin for the first few nights with my cousin and it was great just chilling out and properly catching up.
The rest of the time we stayed at my parents house in a tiny village just 90 min outside Berlin.
The kids head a great Easter! We went to see the traditional bonfire on Saturday night before Easter and the kids got to go egg hunting in my parents garden. They just loved it!
On Easter Sunday tradition is to go egg rolling – champagne included! While the kids are busy rolling hard boiled eggs down a hill side, family and friends get together catching up over a bottle of champagne or two. The winner is who’s egg rolls the furthest and doesn’t break on the way.
It was the first time for me to take the kids and they enjoyed it!
There are plenty of fantastic cafes in Germany. If you are in the countryside, make sure to stop at a traditional restaurant or cafe. Cakes are always homemade and just divine! We went to a beautiful traditional cafe just a 30 min drive from my parents house and besides great food they had a petting zoo and playground as well. Happy kids – happy me!
With more than 10.000 festival in Germany throughout the year, besides the Christmas markets I love visiting one of the numerous medieval markets and fairs. This time went to Castle Rabenstein. It’s on for 4 days and there is plenty of entertainment – historical re-enactment, fire shows, roaming performers, theater groups, great music and a huge medieval market with plenty off handicraft and some great food!
