Weekend away – West coast of Ireland

We spent the weekend on the west coast of Ireland and I finally got to see the Cliffs of Moher!

On Friday morning we left rainy Cork behind to head to Westport. First stop with at the Adare Manor – what a stunning hotel! We had a look around the grounds and had a delicious lunch at the club house!

After leaving Adare we continued to Westport – which was voted best place to in Ireland and I could clearly see why! Beautiful countryside, right on the Atlantic ocean and a beautiful city centre with plenty of good restaurants and pubs. We arrived quite late and unfortunately most restaurants were booked out for the night – but we’ll be back soon I think.

We stayed at the Linden Hall B& B and I can highly recommend it. Location is fantastic, just a 2 minute walk from the main street with plenty of restaurants and shops. The rooms were spacious and our breakfast delicious. I loved the atmosphere and Manager Paul made sure we enjoyed out stay.

Before heading of to Lisdoonvarna we climbed Croagh Patrick – well the kids and I halfway and Mr Sunkissed climbed all the way up – in flip flops! The view were breathtaking!

Afterwards we headed towards Lisdoornvarna, driving along the Wild Atlantic Way and taking in the stunning scenery along the way. We stopped at the Delphi lodge – having read about it a lot – and decided we’ll definitely go back therefor a weekend away.

Once arrived at our destination for the night, we headed to the Roadside Tavern. What a great night! There menu is small but still hard to make a decision. Being just 2 minutes away from the Burren Smokehouse we decided to try the smoked salmon. It was divine! The Burren Smokehouse export their products to the US, Great Britain, Germany and you can buy them all over Ireland of course as well.
We had a fabulous night. After the band left, local musicians arrived and started playing together. What a great atmosphere. Make sure to try their local beer – the Roadside Tavern has a micro brewery attached to the pub.
