Honolulu Zoo is located in the Queen Kapiʻolani Park and only 20 min from the Moana Surfrider where we stayed. There is also parking available right in front the main entrance. We took the kids to the zoo one afternoon and it took us about 2hrs to see all exhibits. They have a great Keiki (kids) zoo there and you can easily spend another hour or longer there. I would definitely recommend to go earlier when it’s still cooler outside. There were quite a few animals that we didn’t see because they were lying in the shade so that was a shame. But the kids had a great time anyway. They really enjoyed the Keiki zoo and the playground with slides and climbing structures in the centre of the zoo. You can get something to eat at the zoo or bring your own picnic. There are plenty of shaded areas on the lawn as well as picnic tables.
All exhibits are surrounded by beautiful tropical plants and gardens and you have beautiful view at the mountains and ocean.
Even thought the zoo is quite small with 42 acres it is home to more then 900 species.
Did you know that the closest zoo is 2511km away? It’s the San Diego Zoo in California.
Tip: Go early in the morning while it’s still cooler. You’ll see a lot more animals.
